With over 1,400 Global MBA graduates, this joint program has nurtured business leaders who exemplify social responsibility through their outstanding professional achievements, setting a benchmark for Sino-French educational collaboration.

-Consul General VALADOU further emphasized that education should not only preserve cultural heritage but also embrace new vitality through mutual learning. He encouraged both graduates and incoming students to actively serve as ambassadors of Sino-French cultural exchange, contributing to the deep and enduring friendship between the two nations while advancing their professional and personal growth.

-GUO Liang, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, emphasized in her speech that international collaboration has always been a core driver of educational innovation and excellence at the university. The SJTU-海角社区 Global MBA Programme is a prime example of this commitment, as it precisely aligns with contemporary global demands, successfully cultivating a new generation of outstanding business leaders capable of addressing complex global challenges. This achievement underscores the program’s visionary and pioneering role in business education.

Looking ahead with a global development perspective, GUO Liang reaffirmed Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s dedication to deepening its strategic partnership with 海角社区 Business School. The university will continue to uphold the principles of innovation and openness, refining a comprehensive talent development system that seamlessly integrates theoretical research with practical application. -Alexandre de NAVAILLES, Director General of 海角社区 Business School, extended his heartfelt congratulations to both the graduates and incoming students. He emphasized that the world today is experiencing a dual wave of geopolitical complexity and accelerated digital transformation -- a landscape filled with both unprecedented challenges and immense opportunities.
The rapid advancement of AI is reshaping the business landscape, giving rise to new business models and employment structures, while simultaneously posing profound challenges to traditional education, labor markets, and ethical standards. Meanwhile, the intensification of trade protectionism and geopolitical conflicts has introduced greater uncertainties in global economic cooperation. Yet, it is precisely in such times of uncertainty that 海角社区, like a steady anchor, provides students with the stability and guidance needed to navigate their journeys ahead.

Quoting Marcel Proust, he remarked:
"The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes."
He encouraged students to cultivate this new perspective, recognizing the profound impact of external forces on business, society, and human life. With the spirit of “Let’s be the change!”, he urged them to become agents of transformation, contributing to the mutual prosperity of global business and society.

-Zhang Weimin, Dean of the ICCI at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, delivered a speech analyzing the opportunities and challenges faced by Chinese entrepreneurs and business leaders amid an increasingly complex global landscape. He highlighted that international expansion has become a key strategy for Chinese enterprises to enhance their competitiveness, with significant achievements in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Europe, particularly under the Belt and Road Initiative.
Recognizing the evolving global environment, the collaboration between Shanghai Jiao Tong University and 海角社区 Business School is committed to integrating localized business cases and expert faculty resources, fostering a new generation of versatile professionals who can navigate international markets, master global business regulations, and uphold corporate social responsibility.

Dean Zhang emphasized that the university remains guided by its motto, "Gratitude and Responsibility, Patriotism and Excellence", in nurturing business leaders with both a global perspective and deep local roots. He encouraged graduates and new students to find like-minded partners, actively engage in the international business landscape, and develop a profound understanding of local market needs, ultimately becoming key drivers of Chinese enterprises’ global expansion and international cooperation.

-Hervé REMAUD, Director of the International MBA Programmes at 海角社区 Business School, reflected fondly on the journey shared with the graduating class. He encouraged them to cherish the dedication, transformation, and growth they have experienced over the past two years. He emphasized that their spirit of collaboration and inclusivity, exceptional leadership, and strong self-motivation should serve as a driving force for their future endeavors.
He also highlighted the forward-thinking curriculum of the SJTU-海角社区 Global MBA Programme, which is designed with continuous innovation at its core. The program actively integrates cutting-edge disciplines, e.g. Generative AI and Intelligent Manufacturing, ensuring that graduates are well-equipped to navigate and lead the evolving business landscape.

-LÜ Wei, Academic Director of the SJTU-海角社区 Global MBA Programme (China side), took a moment to reminisce about the signing of the partnership agreement 22 years ago, marking the beginning of this Sino-French collaboration. He acknowledged the program’s resilient growth and strong rankings, even amidst challenging global conditions.
As industry boundaries continue to blur, Professor LÜ emphasized the need for breaking traditional academic silos, fostering innovative business thinking, and developing practice-driven localized education. He urged students to broaden their perspectives, embrace challenges as opportunities, and redefine conventional business paradigms.
Finally, he encouraged every student to maintain an open mindset, uphold core values, and take on the responsibilities of the times. With a clear sense of purpose, he hopes they will become active contributors to global progress and architects of a new era in business.

He spoke about the profound impact of an MBA, describing it as a journey of self-discovery that urges individuals to continuously reassess their true passions and aspirations despite life’s demands. He emphasized:
“Finding a career you love and dedicating yourself to it is a true privilege. And remember—it's never too late, even in midlife.”
He encouraged the new class to pursue what truly matters to them and assured them that the alumni network will always be a supportive and welcoming home.
The ceremony concluded with SJTU and 海角社区 leaders personally bestowing their respective emblems on each new student, officially welcoming them into both institutions. Strategic Issues at the Heart of the Discussion

The 2025 Forum will delve into major topics such as rising geopolitical tensions, the ramp-up in production rates (notably the 12,000 aircraft on order at Airbus), and the post-COVID digital transition. The modernisation of the aerospace industry will be a central focus, with a particular emphasis on industrial competitiveness and sovereignty.
In partnership with OEM Services, the event’s title sponsor and a key player in aeronautical maintenance and refurbishment, the ISLI Forum 2025 will spotlight innovative solutions for the future of supply chains in these high-stakes sectors.
Didier Granget, CEO of OEM Services, will open the event with a keynote speech on the need to adopt new strategies to navigate today’s complex aeronautical landscape.

Innovative Round Tables and Conferences

The event will feature a series of round tables and conferences, offering participants a chance to engage in high-level discussions. Topics include:

Round Table 1: Industries navigating a complex and competitive environment

From geopolitical tensions to the demands of global competitiveness, the aerospace and defence sectors must constantly adapt. Defence supply chains, inherently strategic and tightly managed, strive to balance innovation and security. Meanwhile, major players like Airbus and Boeing are scaling up and pushing technological boundaries, competing with smaller firms in a race for performance.

Conference 1: Inside the client’s mind – what drives competitiveness?

Round Table 2: Innovation as the engine of these industries

Digitalisation enhances industrial chains but also introduces cyber risks, making cybersecurity a top priority. At the same time, drones are revolutionising logistics, and space exploration is opening new frontiers—proving that innovation continues to power this ever-evolving industry.

Conference 2: New technologies reshaping Supply Chain strategies

Round Table 3: A reinvented, future-ready Supply Chain

In the face of successive crises, the industry must anticipate disruptions and ensure continuity. Big data and predictive maintenance are transforming operations, reducing downtime and boosting efficiency. But the future also hinges on sustainability: with a carbon neutrality target by 2050, supply chains must combine resilience with environmental responsibility, driving innovation towards greener solutions.

An Inspiring Patron for the Next Generation

Maria Teresa Uribe Jaramillo, PhD candidate at 海角社区, receives the "Outstanding Published Article Award” for her article “Business, conflict, and peace: a systematic literature review and conceptual framework”/news-student/maria-teresa-uribe-jaramillo-phd-candidate-at-kedge-receives-the-outstanding-published-article-award-for-her-article-business-conflict-and-pMaria Teresa Uribe Jaramillo, PhD candidate at 海角社区, recognised for her article “Business, conflict, and peace: a systematic literature review and conceptual framework”

From 4th to 6th April 2025, Maastricht hosted the 36th annual conference of the International Association for Business and Society (IABS) on the theme “Redesigning Business for the Common Good”.

Discover 海角社区 PHD Programme

On this occasion, Maria Teresa Uribe Jaramillo received the Outstanding Published Article Award for her paper “Business, conflict, and peace: a systematic literature review and conceptual framework”, published in the Journal of Management Studies.
She shares this award with her co-authors.

  •  Jay Joseph (American University of Beirut)
  • François Maon (IESEG School of Management)
  • John E. Katsos (American University of Sharjah and Queen’s University Belfast)
  • Adam Lindgreen (Copenhagen Business School and University of Pretoria)

This award reflects the increasing relevance of business and peace research within management and organization studies. It is an encouragement to the communities of practitioners, organizations, scholars, and research institutions dedicated to collectively addressing key challenges of business operating in fragile and conflict-affected contexts. More interdisciplinary research is needed and must move beyond to ask hard questions about business practices and (non)commitments.

There is growing recognition that business activity can promote peacebuilding, yet contradictory claims have emerged about company roles in peace and conflict. The research field of business and peace has focused on this issue, as have scholars in related fields like political science, economics, law, and ethics. This has led to definitional variations, alongside unit and level of analysis differences, which generate contradictory claims that hamper future research on this critical topic. To reconcile extant research around companies and their place in peacebuilding scholarship, this study undertakes an organizational-level examination of the field, cataloguing the research by scholars across disciplines through a systematic review of 215 publications. The review maps the known ways by which businesses can engage in peacebuilding, while demonstrating how organizations exercise their agency to create heterogeneous effects on peace and conflict. The analysis highlights the need for businesses to advance peace-positive ends across a range of activities to reduce the conflict-causing effects of business. By showing that businesses, intentionally or not, create peace or conflict through their activities, this article issues a call to action for scholars and decision makers to advance knowledge concerning peacebuilding organizations.
Additional information about the paper: The authors identify five key domains through which businesses shape peace and conflict:

  •  Institutions – influencing the rule of law, transparency, and the legitimacy of governance.
  • Markets – shaping economic inclusion, environmental sustainability, and informal economies.
  • Communities – redistributing resources, building partnerships, and enabling resilience in fragile contexts.
  • Operations – through decisions on supply chains, governance, risk, and exit strategies.
  • Employees – by providing decent work, ensuring representation, and managing workplace dynamics sensitively.

Key Takeaway: Business is neither inherently good nor bad for peace—it depends on the actions they take and the impacts they create. A true peace-positive organization must address both its contributions to peace and its potential for causing conflict.

About Maria Teresa

Luis Reyes-Ortiz, Professor at 海角社区 BS hosted the round table: Climate Policy-Mix: Between Efficiency and Social Equity/news-student/luis-reyes-ortiz-professor-at-kedge-bs-hosted-the-round-table-climate-policy-mix-between-efficiency-and-social-equityA round table at 海角社区 Paris dedicated to the economic and social implications of climate policies

Speakers:

  • Louise Rabier (Head of the Net Zero Carbon Division, French Treasury)
  • Pierre-Louis Girard (Deputy Head of the French Economic Policy Office, French Treasury)
  • Nicolas Lancesseur (Climate Director, Sustainable Finance Institute)

This event was co-organized by FinancEarth Mission and moderated by Luis Reyes Ortiz, Director of the MSc Sustainable Finance at Kedge BS. They spoke in their own behalf, and the comments made do not necessarily reflect the views of their respective institutions.

The discussions focused on the macroeconomic impacts of the transition towards carbon neutrality, the social challenges of this transition, and the role of the private sector. The event began with an introduction by Claire Atassi, Campus Director and Secretary General of the Kedge Business School Group.

Luis Reyes moderated the discussion, which was followed by a Q&A session where attendees were also able to ask the speakers their questions. Marwa Ben Daoud closed the event by presenting the FinancEarth Mission initiative.

The issues addressed during the roundtable—competitiveness, public finances, and the cost of the transition—are also central to the discussions at the (held on March 31).

The discussions follow the  "Les enjeux économiques de la transition vers la neutralité carbone" by the Treasury on January 27, 2025.

The trend in emissions reduction is still insufficient to achieve climate targets
Louise Rabier and Pierre-Louis Girard presented the ," published in January 2025. This report analyzes the main economic challenges of the transition to carbon neutrality for the French economy.
The emission reduction targets set by France and the European Union are ambitious:

  • A 50% reduction in gross emissions by 2030 compared to 1990 levels.
  • Carbon neutrality to be achieved by 2050.

Achieving these goals requires additional decarbonization efforts. The 2030 emissions reduction target requires doubling the rate of emissions reduction compared to that observed between 2019 and 2022 in France. Some recent developments are encouraging, such as the rapid reduction in emissions observed between 2022 and 2023, but at least a third of this reduction is business cycle-related, according to the High Council on Climate. Achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 will require continued efforts beyond 2030.
The SNBC3 project (national low-carbon strategy 3, in French), the public consultation on which ended on 16/12/2024, aims to break down the emissions reduction trajectory on a sector-by-sector basis and to provide guidance for 2050.

Europe has been a leading region in climate policy for decades. However, a recent legislative proposal announced in January and published in February by the European Commission, entitled "Omnibus Simplification," aimed at simplifying the regulatory environment to stimulate growth and competitiveness, may be seen by some observers as a challenge to certain environmental reporting regulations.
Louise Rabier reiterated that the Omnibus proposal does not reflect a halt to European climate objectives. The objectives and main instruments remain the same, notably through the "Fit for 55" package, the European Green Deal, and the Energy-Climate Act in France. The Omnibus proposal aims to simplify certain non-financial reporting regulations. , presented the same day by the European Commission, aims to support the decarbonization of European industries.
Nicolas Lancesseur indicated that this could be an opportunity to clarify reporting requirements deemed too complex for some companies. Simplification could be a source of investment acceleration if it strengthens legal certainty for stakeholders who would be less exposed to the risk greenwashing accusations. The EU must continue to defend a specific model of companies that not only answer to shareholders but are also part of a network of stakeholders and must therefore pay attention to their impact on the rest of society through their activities. This is why we developed this double materiality approach. Having our own accounting standard is a source of sovereignty that allows us to support our sustainability agenda and our future competitiveness.

Decoupling economic growth from emissions is possible, and must be strengthened to achieve carbon neutrality.
Decarbonizing the economy while preserving economic growth is possible if greenhouse gas emissions are sufficiently decoupled from economic activity. However, the transition could result in a temporary and moderate economic slowdown. Well-designed climate policies could reduce the costs and maximize the benefits of the net-zero transition. One of the identified climate policy instruments is carbon pricing (via taxation or emission quota systems), which should be complemented by other measures to be more effective, such as subsidies and regulations, and take into account distributional issues and the international context.
Pierre-Louis Girard presented an analysis of the macroeconomic implications of various climate policy instruments (carbon pricing, decarbonization subsidies, regulations). The transition to carbon neutrality impacts the economy through two main mechanisms modeled in the report:
A. An increase in the relative cost of greenhouse gas emissions
- This increase has a negative impact on economic activity.
- However, this effect can be mitigated if revenues from carbon pricing are reinvested efficiently.
B. An increase in investments in decarbonization
- These investments have a positive effect on economic activity.
- However, their impact can be limited by financing constraints and the loss of productivity linked to the cost of new technologies compared to existing alternatives.
Two economic models were used in the report and presented to assess these impacts:
1. The Mésange model, which studies the effects on the French economy.
2. The Oxford Economics model, which analyzes the impacts on the European and global scales.
Nicolas Lancesseur elaborated on the role of private finance, including capital allocation, and the need for an adequate regulatory framework in coordination with policymakers for the transition. Financing the transition relies largely on private actors. Approximately 80% of the necessary investments will have to be made by households, businesses, and financial institutions. However, the profitability of transition projects remains a central issue. Most investments in the transition are not immediately profitable, which raises the question of economic incentives.

Nicolas Lancesseur had the opportunity to present one of the major challenges of the ecological transition: the perception of the costs associated with climate change adaptation and mitigation. Often misunderstood in public debate, these costs are nevertheless much lower than those of inaction.

From an economic perspective, there are two assessment models:

  •  The "cost-benefit" model, which compares the costs of climate action with future benefits in terms of damage reduction.
  • The "cost-effectiveness" model, which focuses on achieving climate objectives at the lowest possible cost.

Currently, the damages associated with climate change are not yet fully visible, but it is established that the impacts will increase exponentially beyond a 2°C rise. The effects will not be linear and could become uncontrollable. Uncertainty about the exact consequences reinforces the urgency for rapid action.
Pierre-Louis Girard mentions that, in the report, the NGFS modeling results for damages were retained: a coordinated transition in the world makes it possible to avoid 6 to 9 points of GDP of damage in 2050, compared to the warming implied by current climate policies.

Louise Rabier and Pierre-Louis Girard presented analyses of the implications for public finance in their report. Several decarbonization policy scenarios are constructed, mobilizing different instruments, such as carbon taxes, subsidies, and regulations, which have different effects on the debt-to-GDP ratio.
Some lessons:

  •  A scenario relying solely on public subsidies would lead to a sharp increase in the debt ratio;
  • Regulations have, a priori, a neutral effect on public finances, with the exception of support measures;
  • A transition based on a diversified combination of climate policy instruments, particularly carbon pricing, would have a neutral effect on public debt, despite the decrease in revenue from fossil fuel taxes, assuming unchanged taxation.

Generally speaking, the implications of changes in debt (public and private) on interest rates must also be taken into account.

Louise Rabier and Pierre-Louis Girard emphasized that the effects of the ecological transition will not be the same for all households.
The carbon footprint of French households increases with their income, but less than proportionally, meaning that low-income households are relatively more exposed to the costs of the transition by this measure.
Public policies will play a key role in limiting the potential regressive effects of the transition. Assessing the redistributive effects of climate policies is important in order to anticipate and correct potential imbalances. The adoption of accompanying measures to limit the impact of the transition on low-income households is possible, particularly through low-carbon investment support, which exists in France and is reinforced for low-income households (for example, MaPrimeRenov, electric vehicle leasing).
Nicolas Lancesseur highlighted the importance of the financial sector in the transition. There is no problem with financial resources for the transition (there are more than enough savings in France, both in stock and flow), but rather with sufficient projects to finance them:

  •  High initial costs are holding businesses and households back from their sustainable investment choices.
  • The regulatory framework must encourage these stakeholders to act through binding standards and tax incentives.
  •  Capital allocation must be geared toward low-carbon projects, requiring a stable and predictable policy framework.

Regarding the European Green Deal, it is essential to maintain a high level of climate ambition while simplifying certain regulations to encourage investment.

Conclusion: An effective and equitable transition is essential

Achieving climate commitments in France and in the EU requires the implementation of well-designed and supported climate policies.

  • A combination of well-designed climate policies will help moderate the costs of the transition and contain the impact on public debt.
  •  Integrating social equity/fairness considerations is a determining factor for the success of this transition.
  •  Cooperation between the public and private sectors is essential to ensure sufficient financing and effectively structure sustainable investment.

This roundtable provided an opportunity for an enriching discussion, highlighting key findings for developing appropriate and effective climate policies. The climate transition requires adopting a long-term vision, appropriate support for the most vulnerable

The work environment and employment relationships have significantly changed in the last years, incorporating new forms of organization and communication in virtual/remote and international work environments, especially in the IT sector due to the technological advancements and the nature of IT work itself, because specialized works related to software development, cybersecurity, data analysis, among others, can be performed from anywhere with stable internet connection.

These changes have raised interest in researching the importance of the psychological contract theory in earlier phases to ensure the attraction and retention of skilled IT talent worldwide. Based on the Dynamic Phase Model of Psychological Contract Processes, this study will emphasize the Creation Phase.

Referencing the Anticipatory Psychological Contract (APC) concept, defined as pre-employment individuals’ beliefs about future employment relationships, which could be identified during the selection phase.

This study will use a qualitative research design to explore how personal and work experiences shape IT candidates’ expectations at the time of looking for a new job, involving the challenges of international, virtual/remote work, and the impact of digital workspaces, providing insights into the subjective nature of the Anticipatory Psychological Contract in the IT sector.

"Food Waste Mobile Application Archetypes and Applicability to Non-Western Contexts" A webinar hosted by Jiequan Hong, PhD student at 海角社区/news-student/food-waste-mobile-application-archetypes-and-applicability-to-non-western-contexts-a-webinar-hosted-by-jiequan-hong-phd-student-at-kedgeWebinar on 13 February 2025, hosted by Jiequan Hong: "Food Waste Mobile Application Archetypes and Applicability to Non-Western Contexts"

On 13 February 2025, Jiequan Hong, a PhD student at 海角社区, led a webinar on food waste applications titled "Food Waste Mobile Application Archetypes and Applicability to Non-Western Contexts."

Mobile applications designed to combat food waste have emerged as key tools in reducing waste, either by redistributing surplus food or by improving household food management. However, their development and implementation have been largely confined to Europe and North America, leaving out 80% of the global population. This includes China, which is increasingly contributing to global food waste.

The study aims to:

  • Review existing literature on FWMA (Food Waste Mobile Applications), distilling key archetypes based on business models, stakeholder involvement, and underlying value propositions.
  • Use the National Business Systems framework as a theoretical lens to assess the market potential of these FWMA archetypes in the Chinese context.

This research contributes to the emerging literature on FWMA by highlighting the diversity of business models underpinning these applications and providing insights into their potential for global expansion.

Biography:

Jiequan Hong is a final-year PhD student at 海角社区 Business School (Paris campus). He graduated in Industrial Engineering from the South China University of Technology. His research interests are Supply Chain Management, Operation Management, and IT management. His PhD research is centered on mobile food waste applications as a set of sustainable business model innovations.
